Palkia Raid Guide: best Palkia counters in Pokemon GO

Palkia is a Tier 5 Legendary Raid Boss in Pokemon GO (50019 Combat Power). Best Palkia counters are strong Dragon types like Rayquaza, another Palkia, Dragonite and Salamence. Palkia is weak to Dragon and Fairy moves. Palkia is not yet available in Pokemon GO.

Palkia can have the following CP values when caught in a post-raid encounter:

  • 2190 – 2280 CP in normal weather conditions
  • 2737 – 2850 CP  in Windy and Rainy weather for weather boosts.

Palkia could theoretically be duoed by extremely lucky, level 40 teams of Rayquaza and Dragonite with Windy weather and best friend boosts, or similar scenarios with extremely lucky Ultra Friends. There is the possibility of other Pokemon like Palkia, Salamence, and Latios being able to duo, but that highly depends on Palkia’s moveset, weather and friendship level. Beyond that, realistically 3-5 high level players can tackle a Palkia, and 6-20 lower level players can handle one.

Palkia Counters

The following Pokemon are considered to be best Palkia raid counters in Pokemon GO.

Palkia raid counters
Palkia
WEAKNESS DRAGON FAIRYBOOSTED BY Windy Rainy
Supreme Palkia raid counters
RayquazaDragon Tail DRAGONOutrage DRAGON
Rayquaza is going to be the best counter bar none. It was boosted due in the recent Pokemon GO Stat Rework, and can now survive much longer, to dole out even higher amounts of damage than the already insane amount it used to.
Excellent Palkia raid counters
DragoniteDragon Tail DRAGONOutrage DRAGON
Dragonite is about the only other counter you could have on your team to duo a Palkia in nearly any environment. Bust out that shiny and get to hitting it!
PalkiaDragon Tail DRAGONDraco Meteor DRAGON
Palkia is essentially a better Salamence with it’s moveset and attacking power. It will be a fantastic choice against itself, in all instances except for when Palkia has Draco Meteor, then it drops down the list extremely. In those cases of Fire Blast and Hydro Pump though, it can compete with, and even outdo Rayquaza in terms of Time to Win.
SalamenceDragon Tail DRAGONDraco Meteor DRAGON
Salamence is a decent enough choice, being hindered by low defenses and the single bar Draco Meteor, but it is a good choice that can dole out some damage.
DialgaDragon Tail DRAGONDraco Meteor DRAGON
Dialga gets a particular mention, especially against the Draco Meteor sets, as it is a DRAGON capable of dishing out STAB moves, while not taking any Super Effective damage from Palkia’s DRAGON Moves. It might have a terrible movepool, but that is made up by its resistances and no SE damage from DRAGON moves.
LatiosDragon Breath DRAGONDragon Claw DRAGON
Good Palkia raid counters
Time to win rises considerably from here, and these Pokémon are best kept to B-teams or used when a large group is active. Italics indicates Legacy.

Palkia moves analysis

Palkia’s move pool consists of different two Dragon type fast moves and three differently typed charge moves:

FastCharge
  • Dragon TailDRAGON
  • Dragon BreathDRAGON
  • Draco MeteorDRAGON
  • Fire BlastFIRE
  • Hydro PumpWATER
  • Draco Meteor is Palkia’s hardest move set. DM is super effective against all Dragon typed counters and makes the whole fight much harder (like 30% harder). Be very careful against this move, it will wipe you if you’re not careful
  • Hydro Pump is almost as dangerous as Draco Meteor. It deals a lot of damage, has STAB and it’s a great move in general, especially when used by a raid boss. Luckily, most counters take neutral or reduced damage from Water attacks
  • Fire Blast is Palkia’s easiest charge move, as it deals significantly less damage than Hydro Pump and Draco Meteor, plus it doesn’t have STAB effect.

Weather Effects

Palkia will be boosted by Rainy and Windy weather, while being more vulnerable in Windy and Cloudy weather.
